I gotta say I'm pretty stoked about this.
I am now officially on display at the Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas!
On display is the very first record we recorded, "Yes, We Have No Bananas!" with my first band Negative Element. It was recorded at the end of 1982 and released on Version Sound records at the start of 1983. On display is an original copy of that first record (only 1,000 were printed) along side the original master tape from the studio that was used to press those records.
A huge and humbled thank you from the bottom of my heart to Fat Mike and the whole crew at the Punk Rock Museum.
If you're ever in Las Vegas, do not miss visiting this incredible collection of punk history.

I've been working on a couple of new tracks. Been working on them for a while now and they are finally done.

It's some fun catchy stuff. It's only two songs but they came out really nice.

I recently added my 2012 solo album "Chaos In Season" to all of the music streaming platforms. I always loved that album and just thought it should be out there for people to listen to if the want to. It's an album I'm really proud of, and probably my most ambitious recording. I'm super happy to tell you that I finally finished and posted the new record!
It's just a 4 song EP, called "There, Not Here". It's kinda just basic mid tempo punk stuff, as opposed to my homage to powerpop that I did with "Woo Girls And Wheelie Kids". I also mixed and mastered it myself this time, which is not my strong suit. I just wanted honest music. No autotune, no quantizing, just play your best take. And kill all the reverb and delay to make it naked and present.
But, I gotta say, for something I did just to kill time on the weekends for fun, it's not bad.

I went the same route as I did on my last album, "Woo Girls And Wheelie Kids" (which you can listen to here) and hired the same drummer that I found on Fiverr. I was really happy with his tracks. He's got a great drumming style. This new recording will just be a 4 song EP, but leaning more on the punk side of things rather than the straight powerpop I did on my last record. This is just to give me something to do during the cold Philly winter, but it's already starting to sound really cool. Stay tuned, and I'll keep you posted!

I am super excited to announce that the new album is finally done!
"Woo Girls And Wheelie Kids" isn't new material. I gathered all of my favorite pop songs and finally gave them a decent recording. I took the originals, slowed them down a bit, and reconstructed all the parts to really make them shine. I hired a drummer on Fiverr to do the tracks and I did the rest, mainly as a way to fight boredom during COVID. But it came out much better than I had imagined, so I finished it as I started, by hiring someone on Fiverr to master my final mixes. The result is a pretty solid powerpop album and I gotta say I'm pretty happy with it!

]]><![CDATA[Punks In Peoria]]>Sun, 26 Sep 2021 17:33:06 GMThttp://www.chopperstepe.com/whats-new/punks-in-peoriaThere's a great new book out called "Punks In Peoria-Making A Scene In The American Heartland" by Jonathan Wright and Dawson Barrett (from University Of Illinois Press). It's a detailed chronicle of the history of the alternative music scene not only in Peoria, but for all of the Anytown, USA's out there.
My brothers and I are featured pretty heavily in the first part of the book. You can read a great excerpt from it here. There is also a companion album featuring many of the bands from the book available here. In celebration of these releases, the authors put on a music fest in Peoria with many of the old bands reforming. So, me and my brothers reunited our old band E.C.A. to play the fest. I posted the live footage from that show on the E.C.A. page.
In other news, I'm very nearly finished with the new album. Just a couple of random tracks to add and then mixing, so it should be up soon. Stay tuned!

So, I decided to record a new album to cure the boredom. I can't record drums here in my little Philly apartment, so I hired a drummer on Fiverr to record ten tracks for me, and he did an amazing job, so I'm really excited! I have no timeline on this project so I'm just playing around with it when I have the time, but it's coming along nicely. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, I did record a full version of a song I wrote called "Simple" in Garageband just to pass the time. It came out pretty cool and I'm pretty happy with it. I posted it on my Loosies page. Give it a listen!
